Mike Erkiletian has been a developer since 1968. He began his career at the Watergate complex in Washington, DC. He was 24 years old at the time, with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Columbia Universityand a love for the development business that continues to this day and is shared by many members of his family.
Since starting his business with just $2,000, Mr. Erkiletian has been dedicated to creating pleasing and effective environmentscommercial, residential, recreational, retail, and hospitalitythat flourish and grow into desirable destinations. His integrity is legendary; he always stays true to his word and to his business relationships.
Mike has won a number of coveted awards during his distinguished career, including Builder of the Year (1972) and Committee Chairman of the Year (1975) from the Home Builders Association of Virginia, Man of the Year (1977) from the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, and the Sidney Glassman Memorial Award (1991) from the Apartment and Office Building Association. He strongly believes in giving back to the communities where we live and work; to that end, he was an active member of the 123 Board Clubwhich helps Northern Virginia Communitiesand served on the board of three popular area restaurants: Caf� Atlantico, Zaytinya and Jaleo. Other professional affiliations have included leadership positions with the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, the Apartment and Office Building Association, the Home Builders Association, the Mount Vernon Society, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, and the Governors Advisory Board for Virginia Industrial Developmentto name just a few.
Mike has always taken a smart and responsible approach to development. In addition to ensuring that his companys projects are green literally as well as figurativelywith trees always having a place in the final development planshe firmly believes in keeping economic and technological growth in harmony with a healthy environment. It is the fine-tuning of these relationships that has long contributed to his companys success, along with a staff of what he calls the industrys best and brightest, and will continue to do so in the months and years ahead. As he once told a reporter, We developers are very anxious on a long-term basis to work on ecology.
